Water Efficient Agriculture

This course educates students about water efficient agricultural practices and methods. It addresses a burning issue that is becoming a big concern for governments, farmers and companies engaged with agriculture. With continued overexploitation of water resources and climate change, the quantity, quality and ease of access to water for crops will worsen further. Knowledge of water efficient agriculture, hence will be prized in an agriculture professional.

Topics to be covered – Understanding Water and Climate Change, Water Productivity Mapping, Water Efficient Irrigation methods and agronomy, Water Efficient Agri inputs, Preventing/managing Water Pollution and water wastage, Regulations and Legal framework for WE, Govt schemes and Professional Opportunities in WE Agriculture.

Who can apply: Candidates who have completed atleast 2 years of undergraduate studies may apply. Specially relevant for B.Sc Agriculture / Agriculture Engineering students.

Water Security & Watershed Management

This course educates students about how to make a water secure community by managing the watershed or community space as a Zero Blue Water footprint space. It addresses a burning issue that is becoming a big concern for governments and citizens as per capita water availability continues to decline rapidly. Climate change with further worsen the situation by increasing number and quantity of extreme weather events, worsening freshwater quality and making access to water more difficult. Hence this knowledge will be prized in a rural or urban sustainability professional.

Topics to be covered – Water Situation in India and the world, definition and need for water security, Water Footprint, Watersheds and catchments, Rainwater Harvesting and other forms of water conservation, Watershed and habitation management for Zero Rainwater Flowout and Zero blue water footprint, design and implementing Water Security Plan, Government Schemes and market trends in Water Security.

Conservation & Natural Agriculture

This course educates students about 2 methods of Water Efficient Agriculture – Conservation Agriculture and Natural Agriculture. Conservation Agriculture is a United Nations (UN) endorsed method based on principles that make farming water efficient and with low need for fertilizers and pesticides. Natural Farming is being promoted by Government of India as Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati Programme (BPKP) under centrally sponsored scheme- Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY). BPKP is aimed at promoting traditional indigenous practices which reduces externally purchased inputs. Both these techniques make farming profitable for the Marginalized and Small farmer.

Topics to be covered – Principles of Conservation and Natural Agriculture, Agronomy of CA and NA, Water Saving in CA and NA, Government Schemesand market trends in CA and NA, Global trend towards CA & NA, Success stories of CA and NA in India and abroad. design and implementing CA & NA farms.

This course trains students to make water audits and survey buildings, factories, habitations, crops and fields for FORCE Water Efficiency Certification. It teaches students about how to conduct a water audit and analyze that information vis a vis benchmarks to assess its water efficiency. With increasing water scarcity, there is a lot of pressure on all sectors to become more water efficient. This course will train students to be prized rural or urban water sustainability professionals.
